Mechatronics System Design Textbook

Mechatronics System Design

Mechatronics System Design

  • Includes an overview and explanation of mechatronics from a model-based perspective.
  • Uses a Modified Analogy Approach for creating dynamical models of physical systems.
  • Contains sensor and actuator
  • Presents a thorough discussion of classical control with the incorporation of real-world constraints.
  • Gives a discussion of analog and digital hardware components for real-time computer interfacing.

This text by Shetty and Kolk, blends the pertinent aspects of mechatronics--system modeling, simulation, sensors, actuation, real-time computer interfacing, and control--into a single unified result suitable for use in the college-level mechatronic curriculum. In this textbook, fundamental methods for model-based design of mechatronic systems are presented in a systematic, comprehensive form. The method framework presented here comprises domain-neutral methods for modeling and performance analysis: multi-domain modeling (energy/port/signal-based), simulation (ODE/DAE/hybrid systems), robust control methods, stochastic dynamic analysis, and quantitative evaluation of designs using system budgets. The model framework is composed of analytical dynamic models for important physical and technical domains of realization of mechatronic functions, such as multibody dynamics, digital information processing and electromechanical transducers. Building on the modeling concept of a technology-independent generic mechatronic transducer, concrete formulations for electrostatic, piezoelectric, electromagnetic, and electrodynamic transducers are presented. More than 50 fully worked out design examples clearly illustrate these methods and concepts and enable independent study of the material.
Students are introduced to all the topics needed to develop a good understanding of the basic principles used in mechatronics technology through the use of examples, problems and case studies, all of which can be quickly and affordably assembled and investigated in laboratory settings. Core aspects are combined with practical industrial applications and are presented in an opitimal way for understanding. The book features extensive coverage of the modeling and simulation of physical systems Mechatronics System Design new edition

MECHATRONICS SYSTEM DESIGN responds to the emergence of a new course in the ME curriculum which combines electrical components -- such as actuators and sensors -- with mechanical elements in a system. The book combines a fully-developed treatment of mechatronics with a collection of class-tested case studies taken directly from projects students at Hartford have done with industry. These practical case studies meet the need in ME for applied, design-oriented material which give the student a sense of what engineers do in actual practice. Shetty and Kolk keep the technical and mathematical cont
